Welcome

Hello, and welcome to Study His Holy Word.

This blog site has been active for quite some time now, but truly was not successful the first time around. Therefore, I am trying it again, with a special group of people that are involved in the "40 Days of Prayer" Series at my church. I am recommending that the individuals in my group use this blog site to reflect upon our daily exercises, have discussions regarding each day's lesson and just share any thoughts or feelings you may have. I think this will be a wonderful way to share our information and who knows......maybe we will get some "outsiders" to join in as well. Anyway, I will post on here EVERY day what my thoughts and feelings are about the exercise, so feel free to comment all you want. I hope we find this to be a very valuable tool.

"And all God's people say.....AMEN!"

Luke 7:33-35

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and interpretations of my last blog! I am SO EXCITED about this blog opportunity to share and learn about HIS word that I couldn't wait until Friday to post my next passage.

Luke 7:33-35 states, 33"For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, 'He has a demon' 34The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners."' 35But wisdom is proved right by all her children."

Ok, so back in John 7:18-19 John questions whether Jesus is the "one who was to come or should we expect someone else?" I understand that John was not testing his faith, but was honest about his doubts and wanted confirmation. Then in John 7:31 the Pharisees rejected God's purpose because they weren't baptized by John.

Now for the confusing part for me......John needs confirmation that Jesus is the Messiah, then Pharisees reject God because they weren't baptized by John and then in John:33-35 Jesus is pointing out that both He and John were rejected, SO what does 35"But wisdom is proved right by all her children" mean?

Is Jesus simply stating that with longevity of faith that all "children" will understand and accept?

Let me know your thoughts and understanding.

Have a wonderful weekend!
God Bless

  1. In the NLT the end of the verse, Luke 35 says: But wisdom is shown to be right by the lives of those who follow it. In the study part of my bible it says: THe religious leaders hated both John and Jesus, but they did not bother to be consistent in their fault finding. They criticized John the Baptist because he fasted and drank no wine; they criticized Jesus because he ate heartily and drank wine with tax collectors and sinners. Their real objection to both men, had nothing to do with dietary habits. What the Pharisees and experts in the law couldn't stand was being exposed for their hypocrisy. Hope this helps! great blog! 2. Thank you. I am pulling these verses from my NIV study bible, which is a wonderful version! It is always helpful to have the other versions interpretations. I like the wording of "But wisdom is shown to be right by the lives of those who follow it"

The meaning behind that statement and the one from NIV that states "But wisdom is proved right by all her children" gives me the understanding that since the Pharisees were hypocritical that in the end the followers will be the wise ones.

Thanks again and KEEP BLOGGING.....this is great!

The Pharisees were inconsistent in judgement of Jesus and John. They were hypocrites and did not like being called out on it. Wisdom is proved right by followers who live their life by what Jesus and John taught.
